Towards Efficient Consistency Enforcement for Global Constraints in Weighted Constraint Satisfaction

چکیده
Powerful consistency techniques, such as AC* and FDAC*, have been developed for Weighted Constraint Satisfaction Problems (WCSPs) to reduce the space in solution search, but are restricted to only unary and binary constraints. On the other hand, van Hoeve et al. developed efficient graph-based algorithms for handling soft constraints as classical constraint optimization problems. We prove that naively incorporating van Hoeve’s method into the WCSP framework can enforce a strong form of ∅-Inverse Consistency, which can prune infeasible values and deduce good lower bound estimates. We further show how Van Hoeve’s method can be modified so as to handle cost projection and extension to maintain the stronger AC* and FDAC* generalized for non-binary constraints. Using the soft allDifferent constraint as a testbed, preliminary results demonstrate that our proposal gives improvements up to an order of magnitude both in terms of time and pruning.

Consistency Techniques for Flow-Based Projection-Safe Global Cost Functions in Weighted Constraint Satisfaction
Many combinatorial problems deal with preferences and violations, the goal of which is to find solutions with the minimum cost. Weighted constraint satisfaction is a framework for modeling such problems, which consists of a set of cost functions to measure the degree of violation or preferences of different combinations of variable assignments. Typical solution methods for weighted constraint s...
متن کاملDynamic Global Constraints: A First View
Global constraints proved themselves to be an efficient tool for modelling and solving large-scale real-life combinatorial problems. They encapsulate a set of binary constraints and using global reasoning about this set they filter the domains of involved variables better than arc consistency among the set of binary constraints. Moreover, global constraints exploit semantic information to achie...
متن کاملGlobal Constraints in Distributed Constraint Satisfaction and Optimization
Global constraints are an essential component in the efficiency of centralized constraint programming. We propose to include global constraints in distributed constraint satisfaction and optimization problems (DisCSPs and DCOPs). We detail how this inclusion can be done, considering different representations for global constraints (direct, nested, binary). We explore the relation of global cons...
متن کاملWeighted Constraint Satisfaction with Set Variables
Set variables are ubiquitous in modeling (soft) constraint problems, but efforts on practical consistency algorithms for Weighted Constraint Satisfaction Problems (WCSPs) have only been on integer variables. We adapt the classical notion of set bounds consistency for WCSPs, and propose efficient representation schemes for set variables and common unary, binary, and ternary set constraints, as w...
متن کاملA Stronger Consistency for Soft Global Constraints in Weighted Constraint Satisfaction
Weighted Constraint Satisfaction is made practical by powerful consistency techniques, such as AC*, FDAC* and EDAC*, which reduce search space effectively and efficiently during search, but they are designed for only binary and ternary constraints. To allow soft global constraints, usually of high arity, to enjoy the same benefits, Lee and Leung give polynomial time algorithms to enforce genera...
